That man is up to something!

When investigator Leo Friday is sent to unravel the shady goings-on at the Kimball family mansion, he never dreams his primary suspect will be pretty Lily Rigby, the eccentric family’s social secretary. Everyone just loves Lily, and Leo can’t help but notice that beneath her oh-so-sensible exterior is a passionate woman longing to break free. Leo finds Lily irresistible–trouble is, she might be filching millions of dollars from the Kimballs’ over-filled coffers.

Lily Rigby knows from the start that Leo Friday isn’t just another accountant sent to balance the Kimball family books. First, there are all those attractive muscles, a sure sign that he crunches more than numbers and pushes more than pencils. Then there are all those pesky questions about her personal life. But when he takes her in his arms and gives her the most pulse-pounding kiss of her life, Lily is almost ready to put her suspicions aside. He can’t be on to her–can he?

This was a terrible book. The premise upon which the story is based is so offensive to me as a woman. I can't believe that in this day and age such a backward story would even get published. Such a premise may have been plausible in a historical romance, but in a contemporary romance it was quite insulting to all women with professional careers. Aside from the main premise, I found very little to recommend the relationship between the two main characters. I couldn't see why they were even attracted to each other. The character of Lily seemed to be very cold. The character of Leo seemed to always think the worst of Lily, while he had immersed himself in a series of deceptions.
Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on this book. The only character in the book I actually liked was that of Caroline, which was a small secondary character. However, Bevarly paired her up with Schuyler, a completely self-absorbed character with little to recommend him. My only regret is that I wasted my time on this book and didn't immediately chuck it into the garbage.

Her Man Friday edition by Elizabeth Bevarly Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is a great novel and I can't wait to get my hands on other works written by Elizabeth Bevarly. However, there are a few discrepancies that keep me from rating this book five stars. I feel that the characters are not fully developed and that there are a few holes in this story that are plugged, so to speak, with bad escapes by the writer. Examples of these poor "holes," is the incredibility of so many people in Bevarly's story possessing IQ's of over 140. Let's get realistic, Bevarly conveys to the reader that she's created a think tank. This is not very romantic, and not necessary to make the story stand. Furthermore, how Lily and Leo end up in bed is a little rushed and the script before they land in bed seems empty and just a filler for them to have sex. I can't help being critical of these small mistakes by the writer, but the only time that I find it worthwhile to be critical is when the writer actually shows promise of something good. My last and only complaint is the premise of $50 million dollars being missing. I can't help but question why would the billionaire Kimball care if people knew that his secretary was donating money to charity? Finally, what I really enjoyed about Bevarly's writing is her ability to create humour and describe the steamy lead up to lead couple's "tango." Bevarly shows a lot of promise for future works, so get out there and buy "Her Man Friday!"
Save your money and skip this one; IQ really matters

What a big dissappointment! I have to admit that I am totally puzzled by the high ratings this book has received. Unfortunately the main story line and romance was totally lack of attraction and humour. The author had been unable to do even an average character development. Mainly, what I can not understand about this book is everybody asks or knows everybodys IQs. Perhaps, that's the problem of the author. I, myself got fed up with counting this issue after 11th question referring this subject in this book.

I guess, It would be more clever to write a complete book about Schuyler who is actually the most interesting and dominant character in this book. Actually, the main characters are far beyond being the main ones. I have not understood anything about the relationship between Leo and Lily, in fact that was not even a relationship. No chemistry, no spirit at all. The first 100 pages of this book was a total mess. When Schuyler came back to his house, the plot a little bit became interesting, however the romance between Schuyler and Caroline and also Schuyler's relationship with his daughter Chloe were the unnecessary reading points. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

***
Elizabeth Bevarly seems to be slightly obsessed with IQ. In a previous book of hers, Beauty and the Brain (Silhouette Desire), the plot device is also the hero's lack of respect for the heroine due to her seemingly lower intelligence. Interestingly, that book of less than 200 pages does a much better job of character development and plotting than this book of almost double the length. In Her Man Friday, everyone knows and cares about each other's IQ. Do you know your IQ? I don't and I don't know anyone who does and I have never even had a conversation about it. Do you care about anyone else's IQ and do you know anyone who cares? Probably not, so it's a little difficult to identify with the characters. The story is fun, but it seems like the author threw the kitchen sink at the plot -- illegitimate genius daughter, bizarre sister (what is her story anyway?), channeling mother, hidden CEO, PIs, pseduo-gangster friends, kitchen sink... ALso it seems that Schuyler really is the main character --he's certainly more interesting -- although the main character is supposed to be Lily. I think Ms. Bevarly could have used some sound editing on this one, asking such questions as, "What's up with the IQ business? and Whose story is this, anyway?" I would recommend Beauty and the Brain as the far better book -- the characters take a similar plot device --IQ-- and turn it on its ear. In that book, the emotions, turning points and characters are natural, poignant and believable, while still being a fun read. I have kept this book in my library, while I was glad I had only borrowed Her Man Friday. In conclusion -- while you are reading Her Man Friday and suspending disbelief you may enjoy the humor and multiple plot devices -- but after you are done, you realize the contrivances and obsession with IQ do not make this a keeper.
too much description, including the character's thoughts, and not enough dialogue. I've read better by this author. It has some entertaining parts.
